Claire Simon Câmara Opaleye is the proud owner of Espoir Translations.

Native and cross-cultural expertise

She grew up in France, studied in Germany for a year and has been living abroad (Portugal and the UK) since 2002, giving her an in-depth knowledge and precise grasp of cultural, social, industry-related realities in both France and the UK, as well as a broad understanding of French and English speaking countries. She is married to a Nigerian Brazilian British national, which enhances her cross-cultural expertise.

Master’s degree in translation

She holds a Master’s degree in translation from the Université Paris Diderot Paris, with a focus on environmental issues.

Translating since 1997

She has worked in international settings for 15 years, translating as part of her varied roles and developing her enhanced skills in customer care and project management. She has been a freelance translator since 2011 and founded Espoir Translations in 2018.

True passion for humanitarian affairs and international development

Since 1992, she has volunteered with various humanitarian and social welfare charities, including organising her own volunteering trips abroad to provide immediate front-line support in different capacities. She has a true passion for humanitarian affairs and international development with a special interest in refugee issues.

She is a qualified member of the Institute of Translation and Interpretation (ITI), which guarantees professionalism and access to a wide network of other professional linguists.

She is committed to CPDs, translation being a learning profession in its essence. She regularly attends translation events and conferences but also international development and humanitarian affairs events, such as the BOND Conference and London Aid&Trade. She also takes regular online courses via the UNITAR, disasterready.org, Kaya, Amnesty International, Coursera, FUN, etc. platforms, to keep abreast of developments within the industry.
